native, Stahl is a retired Davenport Central High School English teacher. Having spent many years in the Quad Cities area, he writes poems which often draw inspiration from the Davenport Mississippi River and the rich stories which surround it. His inspiration manifests itself in poems like “City Excursion.” The poem describes the Mississippi—its “reaching foamy fingers” and “star-studded troughs of sun stipples”—with loving detail.
Stahl has published multiple poetry collections, including After the Milk Route (1988), Under the Green Tree Hotel (1996), and Mr. Farnam’s Guests (2004). His poetry has appeared in publications including River Oak Review, English Journal, Farmer’s Market, Voices on the Landscape: Contemporary Iowa Poets, and many others. Some of his poetry can also be found in online publications such as The Daily Palette.
