Young Emerging Writers Middle School Writing Camp

There’s still time to register for the Young Emerging Writers Middle School Writing Camp!  The Midwest Writing Center is offering a week-long camp for students ages 10-14 who are interested in writing.  The camp will be held daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 18-22 on the third floor of the Bucktown Center for the Arts in Davenport.

Participants will experience a workshop format and be exposed to various forms of creative writing and critique, and will also be introduced to local writers and editors.  Quad Cities area poet and educator, Ryan Collins, will facilitate the event.  Collins commented on the great opportunity provided by writers’ workshops.  Said Collins: “The workshop experience can be so helpful to an emerging young writer to explore the craft and gain confidence in his or her own development. The Midwest Writing Center offers a comfortable and supportive space for young writers to explore their art.”

Collins is the author of Complicated Weather (Rocktown Press 2009). His poems have appeared in numerous literary journals and other periodicals, most recently Greatcoat, Sentence, and Third Coast. He teaches college English and leads various writing workshops for Quad City Arts, the Moline and Bettendorf Public Libraries, and the Midwest Writing Center. Ryan also serves on MWC's Board of Directors and coordinates the Young Emerging Writers Program.

Cost for the week-long day camp is $50. Please call the MWC at 563-324-1410 to register.
