National award-winning poet, Jean Valentine, will be on campus at St. Ambrose University Feb. 15-16. A potluck reception for her will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Rogalski Center Gottlieb Lounge. On Thursday, Feb. 16, Valentine will visit two classes: Nancy Hayes’ “Renaissance Literature” at 10:50 a.m., in New Hall 008 and Carl Herzig’s “American Literature” at 1:40 p.m., in Ambrose Hall 233. Valentine’s visit is sponsored by the St. Ambrose English Department and the Bettendorf Public Library (BPL).
The Bettendorf library will host a reception on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 6:30 p.m. followed by a program of art, music, and poetry at 7:00 p.m., at the Bettendorf Library. The poetry reading will include a musical interlude of two songs composed and performed by St. Ambrose alumna Julia Goodmann using the texts of two prize-winning poems as lyrics. All events at St. Ambrose and the Bettendorf Library are free and open to the public.
Valentine served as judge for the recent BPL Love Poetry Contest.
